Eyelid surgery can correct droopiness and wrinkling of the upper eyelids and/or puffy lower eyelid bags.

Since the eyes are the focal point of visual contact, they are often the first to show signs of a tired, aged appearance. Many people are unhappy with the appearance of their eyelids and wish they were less wrinkled, puffy, or saggy. With blepharoplasty, we can make your eyelids look youthful and rejuvenated.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a facial plastic surgery procedure designed to correct droopiness and wrinkling of the upper eyelids along with puffy under-eye bags. This is achieved by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle or volumizing with fat transfers. Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both.

Types of Blepharoplasty

A blepharoplasty, or eye lift, can be either cosmetic or functional. When the degree of your upper eyelid droop is such that it interferes with your vision, functional blepharoplasty can correct this. It may be partially covered by your insurance company.

If your reasons for choosing to have an eye lift performed are related to aesthetics, you can come in for a cosmetic blepharoplasty and have the aspects of your eyelids that dissatisfy you corrected.

How Do You Know If a Blepharoplasty Is Right for You?

Dr. Sultan will determine your candidature for a blepharoplasty during consultation before a date is set for surgery. As part of this consultation, your eyelids and face will be examined. Your overall health will also be evaluated, so you will need to discuss your complete medical history with Dr. Sultan.

He will provide you with a list of instructions to follow to help you prepare for your blepharoplasty. You will need to stop smoking several weeks before your procedure; this will help your skin heal properly after the surgery is complete. Additionally, it will be important to avoid NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) before the procedure.

The Eyelid Surgery Process

Eyelid surgery is a precise procedure that starts with the administration of anesthesia. For the upper eyelid, an incision is made in the natural crease at the top of the lid. For the lower eyelid, the incision may either be made below the lash line or within the lid.

Excess tissue is then removed as required. Muscle and skin tissue will be tightened, and excess fat will be repositioned or removed for a flatter appearance. Finally, the incisions will be closed with fine sutures.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

Once blepharoplasty surgery is complete, Dr. Sultan will make sure you have aftercare instructions to follow as closely as possible. You can return home after the surgery has been performed. However, you’ll need to appoint a friend or relative to drive you home, since you will not be able to drive for a time.

You will need to take some time off from work to rest and recover. Additionally, you will need to make sure that your eyelids are moisturized with the help of prescribed ointments or creams.

Protecting your eyelids from the sun during the healing process is very important since they will be temporarily more prone to damage. Using sunscreen with a proper SPF is recommended, as is wearing sunglasses.

How Much Does Eyelid surgery Cost?

The total cost of Eyelid surgery is determined based on factors like your medical examinations, surgeon’s fee, hospital charges, post-surgery garments, and anesthesia. The exact techniques used will also impact cost, as will the total time needed to perform the surgery.
